A Case for A Genetic Link to PD Around 20% of Parkinson's disease (PD) patients have a family history of the condition, indicating a significant genetic component. The discovery of specific genes like SNCA has shown that genetics play a crucial role in familial PD, with substantial evidence supporting this over the past 30 years worldwide. Recent studies, such as one in Malaysia, revealed that nearly half of early-onset PD cases with a family history had identifiable genetic causes, while even those without a family history often had genetic mutations linked to the disease.
